Tax Analyst Consultant – Workday HCM/Payroll & ADP SmartCompliance

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tax Analyst Consultant with deep expertise in Workday HCM/Payroll, EIBs, and ADP SmartCompliance. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of Workday tax experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multi‑state payroll tax compliance in a fast‑paced, remote consulting environment.
This role provides critical support for tax compliance, reconciliation, prior‑year corrections, and client process stabilization, including hands‑on assistance with amendments and tax notice resolution.
Candidates must have experience updating SUI rates, term dates, employee addresses, and pulling W‑2 forms for printing upon request.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Tax Compliance & Configuration
- Review and validate Workday payroll tax configurations, including multi‑state and local tax setup.
- Monitor legislative updates and ensure timely, accurate payroll tax filings across all jurisdictions.
- Confirm correct employee tax setup, reciprocity rules, and local taxation requirements.
Tax Analysis & Issue Identification
- Analyze tax liabilities vs. withholdings to identify discrepancies or compliance gaps.
- Investigate payroll calculation errors and tax deduction anomalies using Workday and ADP reporting tools.
- Identify root causes of recurring issues such as W‑2Cs, missed local taxes, or incorrect jurisdictions.
Research & Audit Support
- Conduct research on federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Audit employee tax setups and payroll transactions for statutory accuracy.
- Prepare documentation for amended returns and support corrective action workflows.
Reconciliation & Reporting
- Reconcile Workday payroll results with ADP SmartCompliance and General Ledger entries.
- Validate quarterly and annual payroll tax reports; identify discrepancies in payments or liabilities.
- Prepare journal entries and reconciliation support for audit readiness.
Prior Year Review & Notice Resolution
- Review prior‑year filings and resolve outstanding payroll tax notices.
- Assist with preparation and processing of amended W‑2Cs.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve quarterly reporting discrepancies and data mismatches.
Client Enablement & Process Stabilization
- Partner with clients to triage open tax items, amendments, and backlog notices.
- Recommend improvements in payroll tax processes, controls, and reporting cadence.
- Provide knowledge transfer and best‑practice guidance to enhance client self‑sufficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Tax Analyst specializing in Workday HCM/Payroll and ADP SmartCompliance.
- Hands‑on experience with EIB creation, payroll tax amendments, and multi‑jurisdictional taxation.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience supporting prior‑year filings, tax notices, and corrective filings strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Must have experience with:
