POSITION OVERVIEW
The Controller directs accounting operations and translates financial activity into
clear, reliable insights. This position shapes how our organization understands its performance,
safeguards its resources, and funds growth.
The Controller architects and runs the accounting engine, pairing technical depth
with operational command. This role owns the financial close and reporting rhythm, improves
systems and internal controls, and sets the cadence driving accuracy, visibility, and financial
discipline across the business.
This is a temporary assignment for a period of up to at least six (6) months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
50% | Accounting Operations
• Manage full cycle of accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, grant tracking and reporting, and general ledger and bank
reconciliations
• Strengthen processes and procedures for consistency and compliance with GAAP
• Design, lead and ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end
close
• Deliver complete, accurate monthly financial results and variance analysis on schedule
• Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers
20% | Financial Reporting & Compliance
• Oversee GAAP-compliant monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Coordinate with external auditors and provide required schedules and documentation
• Maintain compliance with all applicable tax, financial, and regulatory requirements
20% | Systems, Process, & Controls
• Improve efficacy and efficiency of accounting systems, reporting platforms, and
processes
• Identify and implement process, automation, and software improvements that improve
timeliness and accuracy of financial information while reducing manual labor and
analysis
• Design, implement, and monitor effective and efficient internal controls throughout the
accounting cycle
• Manage the accounting and banking systems including appropriate security and
controls on approval authorities, monthly close, etc.
10% | Financial Analysis & Reporting
• Support budgets and periodic forecasts with data and cross-functional input
• Analyze financial performance, identify trends and report variances to finance
leadership
• Establish and track key financial metrics to inform decision-making
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; relevant
professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred
• Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices
• Familiarity with non-profit accounting and grant management preferred
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
• Advanced proficiency with financial systems, integrations, and reporting tools
• Proven ability to identify and implement process and systems improvements that
increase efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness in the accounting cycle
• Proven ability to manage and optimize a fast, accurate month-end close process
• Proven ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually
