Regional Business Unit Controller
Oversee the business financials for our NJ, PA, and NY office locations and would be based out of South Plainfield, NJ.
Will start off fully in office, could transition to hybrid once trained after the 90 day time frame.
Salary $140-$150k base, plus $15-$25k in bonus
About the Opportunity
The Regional Business Unit Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of assigned businesses through out our New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania markets, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and insightful financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making. This role acts as a key finance partner to business leaders, driving profitability, cost management, and performance optimization.
Job Duties
Financial Reporting & Close
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage revenue recognition for service contracts, inspection & testing (I&T), monitoring, and project work
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and financial reviews
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Analyze financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods; explain variances and trends
- Participate in the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes for the business unit
- Develop financial models to evaluate business initiatives, investments, and pricing strategies
Business Partnership
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to business unit leadership
- Provide actionable insights to improve margins, cash flow, and return on investment
- Support contract review, capital expenditure analysis, and resource allocation decisions
Cost & Performance Management
- Monitor and control operating expenses, headcount, and capital spending
- Identify risks and opportunities; recommend corrective actions to meet financial targets
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting efficiency
Leadership & Collaboration
- Manage, mentor, and develop finance staff supporting the business unit (if applicable)
- Collaborate with Corporate Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and other cross-functional teams
- Promote a culture of financial discipline, transparency, and accountability
Other Duties
- Perform additional projects and responsibilities, as assigned
Qualifications
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA and/or CMA strongly preferred
- Willing to travel regionally 25% of the time
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fire protection, life safety, construction, facilities services, or other service‑based industries
- Experience supporting project accounting, WIP reporting, and recurring service revenue
- Multi‑branch or private‑equity‑backed company experience
- Experience with Sage Intacct and/or Service Trade software systems
- Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or rapid growth environments
