Heavy Equipment Operator
Location: Mt. Airy, MD
Job Type: Full‑Time | Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Pay: $26.00–$35.00 per hour (based on experience)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join a growing construction team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment in support of electrical and utility construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong equipment experience, a safety‑first mindset, and the ability to support ground crews when needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, backhoes, trenchers, augers, and trench rollers
- Perform trenching, excavation, backfill, and material handling safely and accurately
- Assist with installation of electrical duct banks, concrete pads, pole bases, and conduit
- Support ground crew with grading, elevations, and general labor when not operating equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and utility drawings
- Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance or safety issues
- Load and unload equipment and materials at job sites
- Follow all safety regulations and company procedures
- Work outdoors at various job sites and weather conditions
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience in construction or utilities
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams
- Strong understanding of job‑site safety practices
- Physically able to perform manual labor and lift up to 40 lbs
- Reliable, detail‑oriented, and team‑focused
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL Class A license or willingness to obtain
- Experience using transit or laser levels for grades and elevations
Work Environment
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Travel between local job sites
