SMT Technician
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Technician to join our electronics manufacturing team in Gaithersburg, MD. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated SMT equipment used to assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs). The ideal candidate will have experience in electronics manufacturing, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens
- Load components, reels, and feeders according to work instructions and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Monitor production runs and identify defects, misalignment issues, or equipment malfunctions
- Perform first article inspections and in-process quality checks
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues to minimize downtime
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and calibration of SMT equipment
- Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, blueprints, and work orders
- Maintain accurate production records and manufacturing documentation
- Follow ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and IPC-A-610 quality standards
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve productivity, yield, and quality
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred
- 1-3 years of SMT, PCB assembly, or electronics manufacturing experience
- Experience with pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, solder paste printers, and AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) equipment
- IPC-A-610 certification preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Basic computer skills for machine programming and data entry
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and blueprints
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and handle small electronic components
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery and electronic equipment
