Lab Instrument Service Specialist

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 annually

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Lab Instrument Service Specialist to support the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory instrumentation and analytical equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal equipment performance, minimizing downtime, and supporting laboratory operations through preventative maintenance, qualification, and documentation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on analytical instruments and laboratory equipment.
- Develop and maintain PM schedules and programs for new and existing equipment.
- Install, configure, and qualify laboratory instrumentation, including performance qualification (PQ) activities.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment to maintain operational efficiency.
- Monitor equipment performance and investigate recurring failures to identify corrective actions.
- Develop and execute testing procedures and maintenance strategies.
- Maintain accurate equipment records and documentation in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
- Manage inventory of instrument consumables, spare parts, and service components.
- Coordinate with laboratory personnel to ensure equipment reliability and compliance.
Qualifications
- Associate degree (or 60+ college credit hours) in a scientific, technical, engineering, or related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience; or
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific, technical, engineering, or related field.
- Experience performing maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of laboratory equipment operation and performance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as:
- HPLC systems
- Mass spectrometers
- Automated liquid handling systems
- Other laboratory analytical equipment
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, contract research, or laboratory environments.
- Familiarity with qualification protocols, instrumentation compliance requirements, and laboratory quality standards.
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus.
