Location: Suffolk
Job Type: Full-Time/Temp-Hire
Shift: Mid
Pay Range: $18.00 – $20.00
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Roaster Operator to join our production team. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, taking raw peanuts and roasting them to perfection. You will manage continuous or batch roasting equipment, monitor temperature and timing controls, and ensure every batch meets our high standards for flavor, texture, and safety.
If you take pride in quality craftsmanship, enjoy hands-on mechanical work, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, we’d love to talk to you.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation & Control: Set up, calibrate, monitor, and operate industrial roasters, cooling beds, and conveyor systems.
- Quality Assurance: Frequently test roasted product for moisture content, color, roast depth, and flavor profile to meet strict quality specifications.
- Process Adjustments: Adjust gas burner controls, air flow, belt speeds, and dwell times to account for variations in raw peanut moisture and size.
- Food Safety & Hygiene: Adhere strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP guidelines, and allergen control procedures (managing peanut-specific environments).
- Sanitation & Maintenance: Perform routine clean-ups, daily sanitation of roasting equipment, and preventive maintenance checks.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate batch logs, tracking roast times, temperatures, output volumes, and quality checks.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 1+ years of experience operating industrial roasters, ovens, or food processing machinery preferred (peanut, nut, or coffee roasting experience is a huge plus!).
- Technical Aptitude: Comfort operating digital control panels (HMI/PLC interfaces) and mechanical machinery.
- Attention to Detail: Strong sensory skills (visual color recognition, smell, and taste) to evaluate roast consistency.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work comfortably in a warm, elevated-temperature environment near roasters.
- Safety First: Commitment to personal safety, machine guarding, and strict adherence to lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
