Lead Receiving
Location: Suffolk, VA
Pay Rate: $24.00/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, with overtime as needed
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Lead Receiving Operator to join our warehouse team. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a strong combination of forklift operation, warehouse receiving experience, inventory management, and administrative/computer skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can effectively multitask, support daily receiving operations, and serve as a backup for key receiving personnel when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a sit-down propane forklift to unload, move, and store palletized freight.
- Utilize the company's Warehouse Management System (WMS) to process and receive incoming products.
- Put away palletized inventory into designated warehouse locations.
- Monitor inventory levels of warehouse supplies, including pallets and shrink wrap, and order materials as needed to ensure continuous operations.
- Conduct daily yard checks and maintain accurate records of shipping containers located on-site.
- Prepare and distribute daily yard reports via email.
- Assist with dock door assignments and daily receiving department setup.
- Serve as a backup to the Receiving Clerk and assist with Receiving Supervisor duties when necessary.
- Communicate inventory discrepancies, operational issues, and safety concerns promptly to management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area.
- Collaborate effectively with warehouse personnel and management to ensure efficient operations.
Required Qualifications
- Recent experience operating a sit-down propane forklift.
- Previous experience in receiving, warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with:
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- Ability to learn and adapt to company-specific software systems and processes.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions when needed.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform warehouse duties throughout the shift.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment and work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous lead, senior operator, or supervisory experience within a receiving or warehouse environment.
- Experience performing inventory control and material ordering functions.
- Experience supporting warehouse leadership functions and operational reporting.
