Benefit Programs Specialist
Role Summary
This position within a human services environment is responsible for determining eligibility for public assistance programs and supporting clients in maintaining access to essential benefits. The role involves frequent communication with individuals and families receiving or applying for assistance to assess both initial and continued eligibility.
Programs supported may include nutrition assistance, financial assistance, and medical assistance, among others.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate directly with clients to assess eligibility for various public assistance programs.
- Review, verify, and update client information using multiple computer systems and case management tools.
- Maintain accurate records in designated eligibility and case management systems to ensure proper benefit issuance.
- Apply relevant policies and procedures to make eligibility determinations.
- Identify and address potential fraud or discrepancies in applications or reported information.
- Represent the organization in administrative or appeal hearings when required.
- Build professional relationships with clients by providing guidance and clear information regarding available resources and benefits.
- Manage time effectively while supporting a diverse client population with varying needs.
Compensation
The estimated hiring range for this position is approximately $50-$55k/yr annually, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one (1) year of experience in eligibility determination, case management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a general background check, including criminal history and relevant registry reviews
- Must meet all eligibility standards related to working with vulnerable populations
