PeopleShare is hiring a Benefits Specialist for a growing healthcare organization in Virginia Beach!
Are you experienced in Durable Medical Equipment (DME), insurance verification, and patient coordination? We’re looking for a detail-oriented Benefits Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient service.
In this role, you’ll serve as a key liaison between patients, physicians, therapists, and insurance providers to ensure medical equipment orders are processed accurately and efficiently while educating patients on their coverage and financial responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Process patient orders accurately and efficiently to ensure timely delivery of services and equipment
Respond to benefit inquiries from patients, physicians, and therapists
Educate patients regarding insurance coverage, deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket expenses
Review incoming medical documentation for billing and ordering accuracy
Request and obtain additional documentation as needed
Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up activities
Handle questions related to insurance policies, coverage determinations, and reimbursement guidelines
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and all healthcare regulatory requirements
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to provide exceptional customer service
Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in the DME/HME industry
Working knowledge of intake documentation, healthcare billing, compliance, and medical terminology
Strong understanding of insurance verification, coverage guidelines, and reimbursement practices
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS billing codes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Required Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, insurance portals, EMR systems, and internal databases
Exceptional attention to detail and data entry accuracy
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
Self-motivated with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
Ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods
Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and telephone
Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
Ability to work in various weather conditions when required
Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are preferred
