Tool and Die Maker
DAY TO DAY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Summary:
A Tool and Die Maker is responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, and specialized equipment used in manufacturing. They interpret technical drawings, operate advanced machinery, and ensure high-quality standards for tools and components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to determine project specifications.
- Operate and maintain precision machinery such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment.
- Fabricate and assemble tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures with a high degree of accuracy.
- Conduct regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on tools and dies to ensure optimal functionality.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production teams to optimize tool and die designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety standards and protocols in the workshop.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Tool and Die Maker or relevant role in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating and programming CNC machinery.
- Strong understanding of materials (e.g., metals, alloys) and their properties.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and workplace organization (e.g., 5S).
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in Tool and Die Making preferred.
- Certification in machining or tooling is an asset.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role is typically preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment.
- Prolonged standing and use of machinery in a manufacturing setting.
