Overview:
This position is responsible for ensuring accessibility to the program for Veteran households, especially those experiencing literal or imminent homelessness. The Outreach Specialist coordinates outreach initiatives to find homeless Veterans and their families and to facilitate the program application process. This role works to develop community partnerships which provide veteran referrals and supportive services and establishes referral processes to support the access of benefits and resources.
Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Knowledge of and connections with the social service (specifically housing/homeless) and non-profit sectors
- 1+ years working in relevant community engagement and communications field, preferably working with programs dealing with poverty, homelessness and personal development
- Valid driver's license with good driving record and insurance
Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the Program Manager, in coordination with the Outreach Coordinator.
- Operates under adherence to program and agency policies and requirements.
- Assists with referrals, document collection, applications and participant screening.
- Performs habitability housing inspections, as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and proprietary information.
- Develops referral relations with community partners, such as local nonprofits, county housing authorities, internal teams, Co. VA directors and others.
- Develops referral relations with Law Enforcement and Public Safety Officials.
- Maintains records to include community asset maps, outreach trackers, mileage logs, and fuel receipts.
- Conducts outreach initiatives to locate homeless veterans and provides our presentations to community partners in order to promote public awareness to program goals.
- Ensures safety measures within office and field environment for clients, partners and staff.
- Primarily responsible for identifying and coordinating with Program Manager on Fleet maintenance issues.
- Organizes Outreach efforts to meet our program requirements.
- Develops and maintains relationships beneficial to program and agency in order to generate referrals to the program.
- Attends all internal, external and community meetings and events relevant to the position and/or ensures staff attendance at all applicable meetings and events.
