Cost Accountant job description:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Calculate monthly revenue, prepare financial reports, and analyze project results.
- Month-End Close: Assist with EAC reviews, prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial forecasts.
- Variance Analysis: Understand and explain differences between actual and forecasted indirect rates.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to FAR and CAS, support audits, and assist with DCAA incurred cost submissions.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts, and Finance teams on cost reporting, invoicing, and process improvements.
- Process Improvement: Continuously refine cost accounting systems and support various business initiatives.
Cost Accountant job requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Experience: 3–5 years in cost accounting or a similar role
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis) and experience with financial software
- Expertise: Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and methodologies, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
- Soft Skills: Ability to work independently, solve problems effectively, and provide valuable financial insights
