Join Our Team as a Project Engineer
A well-established foundry and manufacturing organization in Ashland, PA is seeking a Project Engineer to support and lead engineering projects focused on producing high-quality castings through both sand molding and investment casting processes. This position serves as a key technical liaison between engineering, metallurgy, tooling, operations, quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure successful project execution, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, this is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with foundry experience who enjoys hands-on manufacturing environments and project management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and improve casting processes for a variety of alloy systems.
- Develop gating and riser systems to optimize casting quality and minimize defects.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain foundry process parameters.
- Investigate casting defects and implement corrective actions to improve quality and efficiency.
- Support metallurgical evaluations and non-destructive testing (NDT) requirements.
- Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and quality records.
- Assist with quoting and feasibility reviews for new customer projects.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and communication with customers and suppliers.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities with engineering, production, quality, tooling, and operations teams.
- Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Provide technical support and guidance to foundry personnel and technicians.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, customer, and industry requirements.
- Support engineering activities at both sand and investment casting operations.
- Communicate project status and progress effectively with leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in:
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Materials Science
- Mechanical Engineering
- Or related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of foundry operations experience
- Strong understanding of:
- Metal casting processes
- Melting operations
- Molding systems
- Welding and finishing processes
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and project management abilities
Preferred:
- Experience with induction melting and alloy solidification.
- Proficiency with CAD software.
- Experience using casting simulation software such as:
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing for pattern development.
- Experience working directly with customers and suppliers.
