Job Details for Manager of Food Safety/Quality Assurance:
- Schedule: 8a-5p (M-F)
- Pay Range: $85,000 - $100,000
JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager of Food Safety/Quality Assurance is responsible for leading the FSQA department and for developing and executing the site quality strategy which will enable the plant to continue to be a leader in food safety operations. The role is responsible for the daily quality management and execution of all elements of the plant strategy including managing tactical quality teams, monitoring, and releasing production/product, and hosting regulatory and customer visits. The overall compliance of the site, customer and/or regulatory agency requirements, is the central responsibility of this role.
Responsibilities for Manager of Food Safety/Quality Assurance:
- Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals outlined in 2.4.2 and the food safety plan outlined in 2.4.3
- Function includes management and oversight of the entire site QA Department.
- Assures that quality & regulatory systems are managed, continuously reviewed and improved for compliance and operating efficiencies.
- Ensures that QA department personnel are trained, and the site training program is well integrated. In addition, the Food Safety/Quality Manager ensures compliance to a combination of product regulations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Customer, USDA regulations.
- Leads Food Safety Culture Program and Food Security
- Oversees the Management Reviews and SQF Updates
- Provide guidance to site on quality compliance standards and expectations.
- Oversees internal/external audits and customer complaints.
- Completes quality assurance operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and providing adequate oversight to ensure that requirements are met.
- Responsible for CAPA, Traceability, Product and Equipment Hold Programs.
- Assist with review of quality agreements and act as liaison with all clients on quality topics.
- Oversee compliant document management and retention programs.
- Streamline departmental procedures and ensure staff are trained in pursuit of robust compliance and operating efficiency.
- Ensure site-wide training documentation is adequately maintained and retrievable.
- Manage the Vendor Management Files (Foreign and domestic suppliers)
- Manage and maintain close oversight over all compliance related activities, including evaluation of current program status.
- Generate and maintain site quality system metrics.
- Manage Quality Assurance staff job results by coaching, counseling, planning, monitoring, problem resolution mediation and appraising.
- Author, review, and approve applicable, SOPs, Investigations, year-end inventory numbers, etc.
- Oversees training Service Providers and Contractors
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety & GMP Objectives:
- Ability to recognize unsafe acts and conditions in the facility and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to fully complete appropriate paperwork related to specific job functions in addition to quality and safety/training.
- Complete all annual training.
- Ability to recognize and report all incidents; even those that do not warrant treatment.
- Review and execute our Food Safety Plan and Weinstein Wholesale Meats Distribution Mission Statement in order to provide value to each of our customers with safe, relevant, tasty food products; while never compromising quality.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Must have strong business writing and case analysis skills.
- 5+ years' in quality assurance and/or regulatory leadership – preferred.
- Knowledge of GMP/USDA/FDA regulations
- Previous people leadership roles with multi-shift direct reports
- Progressive leadership roles within quality organizations with proven track record of success.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with demonstrated team building success. Has a passion for building, developing and leading strong diverse teams.
- Creative conceptual thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable with technical issues.
- Decisive with a bias to action
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities at one time using effective organizational skills and judgment in an environment of frequently changing circumstances.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with established policies and procedures.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
- Comply with all company safety policies and procedures as well as complying with all OSHA rules and regulations (THINK “SAFETY FIRST”).
- Adhere to good manufacturing practices (GMP’s) including proper waste disposal, attire, grooming and hygiene, etc.
- 85% of the time will be standing and sitting in an office environment.
- 15% of the time will be on the production floor which will include exposure to chemicals, cold (40 degrees) and a wet working environment.
- Will be exposed to raw product (meat) and meat processing machines.
