Material Handler
Location: Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054
Duration: 4 month contract-to-hire
Pay Rate and Shifts: $18-$20
1st Shift (M-F, 7:55am - 4:05pm)
2nd Shift (M-F, 3:55pm-12:05am)
Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for ensuring the correct quantity of materials is available to support production needs. This role involves loading, unloading, moving, storing, and blending raw materials while maintaining inventory accuracy and supporting production schedules. The Material Handler operates material handling equipment, performs routine cleaning and maintenance, and assists with setup activities to ensure efficient manufacturing operations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain a continuous supply of raw materials at production work cells and machines to prevent downtime.
- Anticipate material requirements for job setups and load dryers prior to scheduled production starts.
- Read work orders and follow written and verbal instructions to determine material movement requirements.
- Transport materials between storage areas and production departments using hand trucks and forklifts.
- Open containers and prepare materials using appropriate hand tools.
- Load and unload materials onto and from pallets, racks, shelves, and workstations manually or with forklifts.
- Accurately perform inventory transactions using ERP systems and barcode scanners.
- Report any non-scanned material movements to supervisors and logistics personnel.
- Apply labels, tags, and identifying information to materials and containers.
- Assist with the setup and relocation of conveyors, grinders, workbenches, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Clean, dismantle, and prepare equipment for future production requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs, including:
- Cleaning or replacing loader gaskets and filters
- Cleaning dryer filters
- Cleaning grinders, dryers, conveyors, water tanks, loaders, drill presses, and molding machines
- Support production and operations teams with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year of manufacturing experience and/or training preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance procedures, and work orders.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong basic math skills, including percentages, proportions, measurements, and basic algebra/geometry.
- Ability to use measuring devices such as rulers, scales, and machine instrumentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
- Experience with inventory systems, barcode scanners, and material tracking processes preferred.
- Valid forklift certification/license required.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly stand, walk, reach, use hands, and perform repetitive motions.
- Frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally sit as required.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment.
- Regular interaction with production machinery and equipment.
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
