Job Description for Internal Auditors:
Plan and Execute Risk-Based Audits: Conduct comprehensive audits by assessing operational, financial, and regulatory risks; develop and implement effective audit procedures in line with departmental methodology and professional standards.
Evaluate Internal Controls and Compliance: Identify key controls and test their effectiveness, ensuring processes comply with internal policies, banking regulations, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) where applicable.
Document and Report Findings: Prepare clear and well-supported audit documentation and communicate findings in a concise and timely manner through formal observations and reports to management.
Collaborate and Communicate Across Teams: Work closely with internal audit leadership, peers, and business unit managers to coordinate audit activities, resolve issues, and provide valuable insights into business risks and controls.
Support Continuous Improvement and Special Projects: Contribute to process improvements, efficiency initiatives, and department-wide training; assist with ad hoc audits and special assignments while maintaining up-to-date audit knowledge through ongoing learning.
Job Requirements for Internal Auditors:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management (required); advanced certifications like CPA, CIA, CFSA, or CICA are preferred or encouraged.
- Audit Experience: Varies by level—ranging from 0–3 years (Internal Auditor I) to 10+ years with banking/financial services audit experience (Senior Internal Auditor).
- Knowledge Base: Solid understanding of accounting principles, internal control frameworks, and audit methodologies.
- Industry Familiarity: Experience or exposure to bank operations, financial regulations, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) is preferred.
- Other Skills: Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
