Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Welder to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for welding, fabricating, and assembling metal components using various welding techniques and equipment. This role requires a thorough understanding of metallurgy, blueprint reading, and safety procedures to ensure high-quality production while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding and tack welding of metal components using spot welding guns, hand-held electric, and gas welding equipment.
- Connect hoses from torches to tanks containing oxygen and fuel gas, adjusting valves to release the correct mixture.
- Ignite torches and regulate the flow of gas and air to achieve the desired flame temperature, size, and color for optimal welding results.
- Preheat workpieces before welding or bending using torches to prepare materials for fabrication.
- Fill cavities and correct deformities in metal components; hammer out bulges and bends for proper shaping.
- Conduct inspections of workpieces for defects, measuring materials using straightedges or templates to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Signal crane operators to assist with moving large metal components and assemblies.
- Dismantle metal structures and cut scrap metal using thermal-cutting tools such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment.
- Position and secure workpieces using hoists, cranes, wires, banding machines, or manual tools for precision welding.
- Select, position, and secure torches, cutting tips, and welding rods based on metal type, thickness, and temperature requirements.
- Operate machinery and equipment with precision, using control mechanisms and physical dexterity to complete tasks effectively.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- In-depth knowledge of metallurgy and metal properties.
- Expertise in various welding techniques including TIG, MIG, arc, and oxy-fuel welding.
- Familiarity with both manual and mechanical welding methods.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic production setting.
