We are currently looking for Maintenance Technicians with industrial experience for our client, one of the largest manufacturers in Newport News. Applicants have the choice between 2nd shift (3pm) or 3rd shift (11pm), Monday-Friday, with some weekend scheduling.
Pay rate starts at $25.00 with the opportunity for an increase upon conversion.
Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of facility and production equipment. Supports safe and efficient operations by maintaining mechanical, electrical, and building systems. Performs related duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial equipment and facility systems.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and diagnostics to identify equipment performance issues and determine corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related systems.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged, or malfunctioning components using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Read and interpret technical documents, schematics, drawings, and operating manuals.
- Maintain and service motors, pumps, conveyors, compressors, piping systems, and related equipment.
- Support facility upkeep including maintenance of building systems and infrastructure.
- Assist with installation, modification, and improvement of equipment and production processes.
- Utilize testing and measurement equipment to verify proper operation and performance.
- Perform basic fabrication, assembly, or equipment modification activities when required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate equipment status to supervisors and team members.
- Follow all safety procedures, environmental requirements, and company policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience performing maintenance in an industrial, manufacturing, distribution, processing, or similar environment.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance practices.
- Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Ability to safely use common maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial automation, controls, or programmable equipment.
- Welding, fabrication, or machining experience.
- Trade certification, apprenticeship training, or related technical education.
- Experience supporting production or facility equipment in a fast-paced environment.
