Safety Coordinator Job Description:
- Maintain an active presence throughout production, warehouse, sanitation, maintenance, and other operational areas to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and observations while documenting findings and corrective actions
- Assist with developing, implementing, and improving workplace safety programs, policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Support compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements
- Coordinate and deliver new-hire safety orientation, refresher training, and job-specific safety training
- Maintain safety training records and track completion of required programs
- Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safe work procedures
- Participate in workplace injury, incident, near-miss, and property-damage investigations
- Assist with root-cause analysis and track corrective and preventive actions
- Support OSHA recordkeeping and required injury and illness documentation
- Support safety programs involving Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, chemical safety, ergonomics, powered industrial trucks, emergency response, and slip/trip/fall prevention
- Partner with Maintenance and Production to identify safety risks related to new equipment, processes, and modifications
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, evacuation procedures, and response planning
- Track safety observations, incidents, trends, training completion, and other key safety metrics
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), inspection records, training documentation, and other required safety records
- Serve as a safety resource for supervisors and employees and encourage employees to proactively report hazards and concerns
Safety Coordinator Job Requirements:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred
- 2+ years of workplace safety experience, preferably within manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, or a similar industrial environment
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety practices
- Experience with safety inspections, employee training, incident investigations, and corrective-action follow-up preferred
- Understanding of LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomics, and manufacturing safety programs
- Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable spending significant time on the production floor and addressing safety concerns in real time
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Bilingual skills are a plus
- OSHA 10- or 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred; additional safety certifications are a plus
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25–50 lbs.
- Must be comfortable working around moving machinery, varying temperatures, noise, food ingredients, and sanitation/cleaning chemicals while following required PPE and GMP procedures
